Do you have a holiday gifts category?

It’s the end of October and the December gift-giving season is just around the corner. Let’s face it: giving gifts is a lot more enjoyable when you feel you can afford them. If you don’t already have a Gifts category in your budget, I encourage you to create one. Then set a Monthly Savings Builder target so that you have money to spend when gift-giving occasions pop up.

The December holidays are stressful for many people. There can be so much pressure to think of, then find, great gifts. One way to make this easier is to simply give fewer gifts. (I blogged about that on my organizing blog last week in a post called How would it feel to stop giving holiday gifts?) I’m a huge proponent of giving (and receiving) fewer gifts. I think it makes everything easier. But if you love to give gifts, I urge you to give some thought to how much you want to spend on them and then fund that category. That’s step one. It will help you stay out of debt and enjoy the season more!
