Entering transfers in YNAB

It can be a little confusing when you transfer money from one account to another in YNAB. The difficulty comes in when you’ve imported a transaction that has the Payee already entered and it asks for a category. But the thing to remember about transfers is that they don’t require a category. When you click on the Payee name, you can select transfer and then the request for the category disappears. If it’s a credit card payment, YNAB helpfully fills in the category as Credit Card Payment.

Here’s a little video of me entering a transfer. My test budget doesn’t have linked accounts, so I couldn’t show you a directly imported transaction. Just remember to click on the Payee (you may have to click twice) and select the proper category from the Payments and Transfers dropdown. It’s really quite simple.
