Entering a credit card payment in YNAB

The way YNAB handles credit cards is part of its magic. But for people just getting started actually entering the payment can be a little confusing. I made a little video to show how to do it.

The easiest way is to use Record Payment in the credit card account. It will automatically populate the amount based on the amount you have set aside for payment. But if you use direct import and you wait until it appears before recording the payment, the thing to remember is that the payment is a transfer from one account to another and doesn’t require a category. You’ll want to change the PAYEE to To/From the other account. Then “category not needed” will appear in the CATEGORY section of the transaction.

Easy, but not necessarily intuitive. I hope this is helpful!
