Today is March 1, which is a fun day for me because I get to do some budgeting! I was reminded today of the importance of making sure I process all my February transactions before assigning money in March.
This morning, I categorized all my pending transactions and clicked Enter Now so that they would show up appropriately in my February budget. (I haven’t cleared them yet, since they haven’t cleared the bank, but they’re accounted for.) I did that before I clicked to March in the budget and moved my Future Month category to Ready to Assign.
For the next few days, I’ll pay attention to any transactions dated February and cover any overspending in February. (I realize I’m fortunate, after years of YNAB use, to have enough money in the budget to make that possible.)
During the first few days of the month, it’s a good idea to keep checking the budget for the previous month and covering any overspending that might come up as the previous month’s transactions continue to come in.
